In addition to the silent auction organized by the Ted Williams Museum, an autograph session is open to all Boston Baseball Writers dinner attendees during the cocktail hour beginning at 6 PM.

All-Star first baseman Kevin Youkilis, recent acquisitions pitcher John Lackey and outfielder Jeremy Hermida, and National League Manager of the Year Jim Tracy are among the honorees who will be attending the 71st annual awards dinner of the Boston Chapter, Baseball Writers Association of America, scheduled for January 14 at the Westin Waterfront Hotel in Boston. Others expected to be at the head table are Red Sox manager Terry Francona, pitching coach John Farrell, hitting coach Dave Magadan, new first base coach Ron Johnson, Fuchs Award winner Bill James, highly touted prospect Casey Kelly and Alex Hassan of the Stedler Division champion Lowell Spinners.

The Boston Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America has voted Kevin Youkilis the 2009 winner of the Thomas A. Yawkey Memorial Award as Red Sox Most Valuable Player. The two-time All-Star hit .305 (150-for-491) with 27 homers, 94 RBI and 99 runs scored in 2009 while splitting time in the field between first base and third base. He finished second in the American League in on-base percentage (.413) and OPS (.961) and fifth in slugging (.548). Youkilis played more than half of his games at first base and becomes the club’s first MVP at that position since Mo Vaughn in 1996. Also, the Boston BBWAA announced that New York Yankees General Manager Brian Cashman has been selected as Major League Baseball Executive of the Year. The Boston Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America selected Jon Lester as the Red Sox Pitcher of the Year. The left-hander went 15-8 with a 3.41 ERA (77 ER/203.1 IP) in 32 starts last season. He led all Major League lefties and finished third in the AL with a career-high 225 strikeouts. Lester, who also won the BBWAA award in 2008, is the first Red Sox hurler to take home the honor in back-to-back seasons since Pedro Martinez (1998-2000) and the only lefty ever to accomplish the feat. The Boston BBWAA also announced other honorees, including Tampa Bay Rays first baseman Carlos Pena as New England Player of the Year, new Red Sox first base coach Ron Johnson as Unsung Hero and longtime Providence Journal Red Sox beat writer Steve Krasner as the Dave O'Hara Award winner. Winners will receive their awards at the annual Boston BBWAA dinner on Thursday, January 14 at the Westin Waterfront Hotel in South Boston.
